Khuram Shafi Mir is the founder of the Qul group. He graduated in Industrial System Engineering and did his masters in Operations Research, from Purdue University, USA. Khuram Mir introspected whether he could create a vibrant economy in a conflict-zone; he decided to fail young and gave himself a year to explore. Thus, with this chivalrous spirit; Khuram, embarked on a courageous journey - to change the face of the rural economy in Kashmir. What is also worth knowing is that Kashmir still is, primarily, an agrarian economy, in which apple production (around 2 MMT/year) contributes 65% to the sector. With this in mind, he pioneered a 2000 MT Cold Store, under the name HN, in the Pulwama district of J&K. When Mir set up the company in Kashmir, only four farmers used his cold storage facility in the first year, but his hard work and dedication bore dividends, and just within 4 years it became a consortium of over 2500 empowered farmers. And now, after a bold and sometimes audacious journey of more than 13 years, he leads a team of young people, bringing empowerment at the doorsteps of at least 10000 farmers.
